UCD B Finally Gets Results, Proud
November 3rd and 4th, 2007; Santa Barbara, CA- Signs of life are here again in the UC Davis B team locker room. Mouthes are running, ideas are flowing, and feet are moving as the B team begins its overdue climb out of the cellar. As the coaches have said in practices over the past two years, the improvement of the B team is evident every day. Finally, that improvement paid dividends in the form of W's going in to the standings for UC Davis B. UCD B had their best tournament in almost three years, dating back to their 2004 consecutive upsets of UCR and Sonoma State. The Aggies rode particularly strong performances by Adam Napolitan (6G, 2A) and Matt Brown (2-1-1, 2.06 GAA) to defeat UCSD and Claremont, tie UCSB Blue, and lose to UCSB Gold 5-2. Faces were a little long after the UCSB Blue tie but overall players were ecsatic about the past weekend.
UCDRH Opens Season, Wants More
Aggies 2007-2008 Roster Formed
The UC Davis B Team has announced its 2007- 2008 roster. Joining the returning Ags are new-comers Noah Michel, David Ko, Adam Napolitan, Jesse Ebel, Dominic Do, Ben Heins, and Kevin Muzikar. With the exception of Napolitan, the rest are products of the Aggies' player development system.
Tentative Practice Schedule For Fall 07 Announced
The UC Davis B team has announced that they will be adding twice weekly "dry land" practices in addition to its twice a week on-ice practice requirement. These practices will be run on one of the IM fields at UC Davis and will be focused on both aerobic and anaerobic exercises. Players are expected to arrive in shape from the summer.
Coach Peter Shenkin was enthusiastic about the change.
"We have a significant recruitment and experience gap that we need to overcome. We have a lot of guys that have not played in an intense team environment before and we, myself included, are going to change that this year. We are going to make team more explosive, more dangerous, and more dynamic. We are going to be tougher and we are going to earn our progress. Our players were not in the best shape last season and if we are to expect any type of success on the rink, we need to expect more from ourselves off the rink. This is a great step of getting ourselves ready to fight for some victories."
The players on the team are also excited for the change. "I can't wait to do this. I puked last year during the only dry land practice we had last year but there were only three people there, so nobody knows about that incident. There have been so many guys who have wanted to do this over the past few years and I am pretty stoked to do this next year. Also, it sets a great tone for all of the new guys on the team. I think this will lead us to win some more games." Freshman phenom and gym-rat Evan Wu said, "Awesome. We need it."
B Team Coach Pete Shenkin will be running introductory workouts at least once a week during the Summer to guide some players in to the shape that they need to be in.
It was also announced that the rink practice times are not expected to change and will remain at 10:30 pm on Mondays and Tuesdays.
UC Davis B Team Finishes Season Heads Held High
The UC Davis B Team finished the season this past weekend in Huntington Beach playing strongly, though in losing efforts, against several teams. See you next season, kids.
UC Davis B Team Puts On A Show Despite Loss
Though they were outmatched by their highly ranked Cal Poly opponent (#2 in the Nation), the Ags fought hard twice today, losing both games. Thanks to a numerous home crowd, over 100 people for the evening games (6pm and 8pm), the Aggies skated hard and made the games close. In the 8pm game against Cal Pol Green, goals by Dorian Sabenorio, Pete Shenkin, and Mike Wilson made the game tight, closing the score to 4-3. The Aggies had several chances to tie the score late in the third on a power play. While the crowd bellowed chants of "U-C-DAVIS!!" loudly, the Aggies lost their momentum when two would-be goals were, in sequence, blocked by a defenseman and denied by the post. The final score of the nightcap was 6-3, though the fans were appreciative of the effort the Aggies put forth.
